Dear Frank and Ellen:
I was truly honored and delighted that your foundation
was so generous as to regard Robbins Park as worthy
of another donation this year. The money you gave to
our Education Center will be used for special programming
and for projects that we would not otherwise be able
to afford.
When I spoke to both of you about placing a memorial
bench in Robbins Park to honor the life and work of
your daughter, Kate, I was pleased that you both thought
it was a good idea. Our park is near your home and in
many was exemplifies the environmental endeavors of
Kate. It would be wonderful to think that Robbins Park
played a small part in creating her passion for helping
others to enjoy the out of doors. Your many family trips
and your love of animals and all things natural were
the most profound influences in Kate's early life. The
bench will provide a respite from our busy lives and
will allow many people to observe the quiet beauty of
nature in a peaceful setting.
Kate's true mission was to provide as many young people
the opportunity to enjoy nature through excursions,
ski trips, camping an hiking. Your generous donation
will also be used to provide camping opportunities to
students who would not otherwise be able to participate
in camps. I will be working with our sixth grade teachers
to develop a program for the students in our area who
do not have the means to go to camp. We are hoping to
bring them to Robbins Park for a special sleepover camp
next year. Your donation will enable us to complete
both of our projects.
On behalf of the students and community of Upper Dublin
School District, I again want to express my gratitude
toward the Kate Svitek Memorial Foundation for your
gift.
Very Sincerely,
Sare E. Smith, director
