Dear Mr. and Mrs. Svitek,

Wow, I honestly do not know where to star. Well I guess I will give you a brief introduction about who I am and my life. My name is Jazmin Elizabeth Torres. I was born in Philadelphia PA. My Grandparents are from Puerto Rico. I just turned 17 on September 22.

I have a mother and no father. He died, I believe from drugs, when I was only five years old. I have only one brother and three sisters. I am the second to youngest child. I spent most of my life moving around from home to home. I have lived with many different relatives and friends. I do not have a stable home because my mother is not capable of taking care of y siblings and I, because she has a substance abuse problem.

I do not live with any of my siblings. I am currently living with a friend who I met from school about two years ago. Her name is Bianca. She has been very helpful to me and shows me love and compassion. I only have two people who are there for me and my sister, Juanita, who is 18, and my friend Bianca, who is also 18.

I am attending Community Academy of Philadelphia Charter School, also known as C.A.P. I am now in my senior year. It is really exciting, because I just can not wait to graduate. I love going to school and I get along pretty well with all of my teachers. I’m very glad to be attending this school, because it has opened the door to new opportunities for me. For example receiving this scholarship and attending the North Carolina Outward Bound School.

I will love to thank you for presenting me with this scholarship. I can honestly say that this school, my instructors (Chris and Josh) and my crew members have help to mold me into a better person. I have met people who I know cares for me and will be there for me if I need them, people who I can depend on.

Before I went to Outward Bound I just wanted to give up. Then attending this school reminded me of my reasons in life and what I am to do. I no longer feel like giving up. Instead I want to continue to go on living day by day and enjoying every moment. I try to make the best out of life. It has also helped me to remember the dreams and goals that I had for myself. Attending this school has encouraged me to do my best at accomplishing those dreams.

So once again, I will like to thank you and your family for giving me this scholarship, so that I can attend the North Carolina Outward Bound School and have such a Great, Wonderful, and memorable time.

Sincerely,

Jazmin Torres
