Dear Mr. Svitek,
On behalf of The Schuylkill Center for Environmental
Education, I want to thank you for The Kate Svitek Memorial
Foundation's recent $1,000 gift. Our organization is
striving to move forward with creating environmental
awareness. Gifts like yours helps us do just that.
Since 1965, The Schuylkill Center has been providing
environmental education to urban Philadelphia citizens,
especially students. In line with Kate's ideas about
"providing people the opportunity to grow through
their interaction with the environment", the Center
hosts many children during their first experience with
nature. We consider outselves the backyard of Philadelphia,
where people can escape the confines of the inner-city.
I know in the past, Nancy Clair had witnessed our EcoVan
program in action at a school in west Philadelphia.
This initiative allows our educators to teach water
education to students using our traveling EcoVan laboratory.
Although we have retired the van itself, the program
continues, using revised curriculum and hands on activities
inside and outside the students' classrooms. In addition,
the Center has many wonderful programs occurring in
2005, including: nature rambles, water surveying, low
ropes challenge course, and various "blitzes"
that focus on recycling, water and wildlife.
Again thank you for your support. It is greatly appreciated
and makes a big difference in our ability to carry out
our environmental mission. You or any of the Foundation's
trustees are welcome to visit our site. Please do not
hesitate to contact me at 215.482.7300, ext. 139 or
apoff@schuylkillcenter.org.
Sincerely
Ashleigh Poff
