In the Spring of 2002, the Kate Svitek Memorial Foundation was established. The Foundation's goal is to provide financial support to individuals, groups, and various institutions whose interests and goals align with Kate's hopes and dreams. The primary focus is to promote and help underwrite a range of activities and education principally related to outdoor and wilderness exploration, study, observation, preservation, improvement, and enhancement. Since its inception, the Foundation has awarded ten scholarships to National Outdoor Leadership School (NOLS), two annual Scholarships to the University of Vermont School of Natural Resources, 25 scholarships to North Carolina Outward Bound, a Grant to resource, an EarthSmart education program in Oregon and a grant to Macrieb Consultant Youth Wilderness Education Program. Additionally, a community event featuring Erik Weihenmayer, world reknown blind mountain climber was presented in Spring, 2004 and Aron Ralston, natural survivalist, was featured in in our 2006 event.
