| Commonwealth National Golf
Club is a challenging course on a sunny day – imagine
playing it in the pouring rain. On September 5, 2006,
the day of the 5th Annual Insurance Industry Golf Team
Challenge, the weather was uncooperative.
The 26 foursomes arrived for check-in and lunch during
a steady drizzle. In the spirit of the event, everyone
was optimistic that the skies would clear and the weather
cooperate. After a half-hour rain delay start, everyone
ventured to their tees during a break in the rain.
Unfortunately, after four holes of dry weather, the
showers started only to turn into drenching downpours.
We were grateful for the teams that played nine holes
before we called the tournament.
Thanks to your generous sponsors and participants, we
broke last year’s record and raised over $60,000.

In Spring 2002, Frank Svitek
conceived the idea of an insurance industry golf event
with proceeds benefiting the newly formed Kate Svitek
Memorial Foundation. The first Insurance Industry Golf
Team Challenge held at Talamore Country Club in Horsham
on September 3, 2002 raised approximately $30,000 with
the help of a sell out crowd and perfect weather.
The following year, the event moved to Commonwealth National
Golf Club and the concept of corporate sponsors helped
raise $42,000 for the Foundation. The weather was uncooperative,
we gave out more hot chocolate than soft drinks, but again
the event was sold out. |

In 2004, back at Commonwealth, 26 foursomes from national
and regional insurance companies and local brokers raised
almost $46,000.
The fourth annual Insurance Golf Team Challenge held on September
6, 2005 at Commonwealth National Golf Club was a perfect day.
The weather was exquisite, the course was in spectacular condition
and 27 foursomes and corporate sponsors helped the Foundation
raise over $50,000; a new record for participation and fundraising.
The Foundation would like to thank our event sponsor - First
Insurance Funding Corporation, lunch sponsor – Belfor

Golf Team Challenge Scores Again

Summer was in full swing
- even after Labor Day - during the Third Annual Insurance
Industry Golf Team Challenge. The Blockbuster event,
which sold out months in advance, was a tremendous success.
Twenty-six golf teams comprised of employees from national
and regional insurance companies and Philadelphia area
insurance brokers competed in the 2004 Insurance Industry
Golf Team Challenge at Commonwealth national Gold Club
on September 7, 2004.
Property and casualty insurance executives assembled
for an afternoon of spirited competition, with teams
vying for bragging rights for winning low net and low
gross team championship trophies. The daylong festivities
featured lunch and dinner, gifts, prizes, and a unique
opportunity for industry colleagues to substitute typical
business rivalries with friendship and fund.
The KSMF would like to express its gratitude to Corporate
Platinum Sponsors - First Insurance Funding Corp., and
Corporate Gold Sponsors - Young Adjustment Co., Margolis
Edelstein, Belfor USA, and Keenan Motors who helped
to make the Golf Team Challenge a reality. Congratulations
to the Low Gross Team, CBIZ and to PMA, Graham, and
ST. Paul Travelers for taking second, third and fourth
place. Kudos are also in order for the Low Net Team,
TRA, followed by Stewart Smith East, ACE, and Selective.
Competing insurance teams included: ACE USA, American
International Group, Argonauts Insurance Company, CBIZ
Benefits & Insurance Services of PA, Chubb Group,
Clair Odell Group, Delaware Valley Underwriting Agency,
ECBM, Fireman's Fund, The Graham Company, the Hartford
Insurance Company, Hilb Rogal & Hamilton, Johnson
Kendall & Johnson, Inc., McKee Risk Management Inc.,
Penn-America Insurance, Philadelphia Insurance Company,
PMA Insurance Company, Selective Insurance Company,
St. Paul Travelers Insurance, Steward Smith East, Triester
Rossman & Associates, U.S. Liability Insurance Group,
Willis, Zenith Insurance Company, and Zurich Insurance
Company.
After dinner, the audience was awestruck by the powerful
and sensitive slide presentation, which highlighted
Kate's lifelong dream and the founding of the Kate Svitek
memorial Foundation - to provide scholarships and grant
money in support of wilderness education, adventure,
exploration, and environmental awareness for children
and young adults.
The evening concluded with powerful speeches from representatives
of the Community Academy of Philadelphia (CAP), a Charter
School in North Philadelphia. With the special partnership
and support of the KSMF and the North Carolina Outward
Bound Program, CAP students have been able to participate
in special wilderness training. Lillian Gonzalez, a
CAP senior and former participant of North Carolina
Outward Bound, shared her experience that she described
as life changing. All enjoyed her humor and wit. Channey
Roberts, CAP Director of Development, provided background
about CAP and enlightened the audience about the school.
Fund raised at the Golf Team Challenge will be used
to send CAP students to North Carolina Outward Bound
again this year.
We hope that all of our participants will continue
to sharpen their skills and improve their golf game.
No one has yet to sink a hole in one for the prized
Mercedes or the $10,000 prize. Stay tuned for details
on next year's event.
